Hi, I just need confirmation on few specific issues I’m (will) face when upgrading/adding new win2003 server.
Issues: -Keep the same name/ip address -Transfer FSMO roles and GC
At which of the upgrade is it best to do the above changes, prior to promoting to DC or after promotion is completed? Is there anything else I should consider?
My current setup: Two Win2000 servers both are DC’s and I'd like to add 3rd server then slowly remove old servers by transferring all data to the new box; however I want to keep the same name/ip address as one of the DC’s (PDC emulator) and not quite sure as to when I can change it on the new box. Old server is configured as a DNS/DHCP in a mixed mode with AD. The new server will take its role in the forest however running in a native mode. All of our clients are Win XP SP, about 35 PC’s plus few HP, Konica and Ricoh printers.
Summary: I run DHCP on DCs. I don't think you should have a problem. I can't think of a reason to be concerned about it. I'd curious their reason for such a statement if you can find it. ...
