OS: Server 2003 Small Bu
CPU/Ram: Intel Pentium 4, 2GB
Product: Dell Poweredge
Comment:

One of my XP Pro machines which was setup by an IT
Technician and not myself takes an extremely long time to
startup when turned on.

It goes through a whole rigmarole of 'Starting up',
Preparing Network Connections' and 'Applying Computer
Settings' before logon screen is reached.

All other XP machines I have setup hit the logon screen immediately.

What can I do to stop this rigmarole at startup and login
straight away?

Is the machine/user setup to have a roaming profile? Have you checked the event log?

Holy Wow.

Talk to your IT people. It's their responsibility. If you've setup machines, do you have them on a Domain?

The machines are on a domain and have roaming profiles.

Its before they logon that they go slowly. When it comes up
saying windows is starting up.

My apologizes, I misread the information. Have you done a quick repair install of windows? I see no harm in attempting to do this.

Holy Wow.

My guess is the machine that was setup by the IT person is actually applying GPOs.

Have you checked to see what all Services are started? Did you contact your IT people again?
