Slow LAN Speed for File Services

Comment:
It takes a long time when downloading or uploading files to the new windows 2003 server. Access time was fast on the NT 4.0 server. Would the DNS configuration have anything to due with this?

I wanted to add more info to my previous message: I can access other servers with normal response time so it should not be the 3com switch. However, if I connect the 2003 server to a 10m hub, I will get much better speeds. The 2003 server has an internal nic and also I have added one and both have the same speed problem.

I suggest you check the configuration of you NIC. Just select the "properties" of your LAN connection then select the "configure" button for your NIC and finally choose the "advanced tab" and force the flow control to full duplex and 100 Mbs. Of course this setting has to be applied to the port of your switch also (i.e. the one to which your server is connected to). If both (or just one) is set to "Auto" you might experience the kind of problem you are describing. Good Luck.
