I am experiencing very slow file access between my windows server 2003 machines. Copying 11 MB of files from one folder on my file server to another folder on the same server takes 1 minute 10 seconds when I perform the copy from another server 2003 box. When I perform the very same copy from an XP workstation it takes 9 seconds.
I've tried the same test from different servers and even tried on another 2003 network all with the same results. Any Idea why server 2003 would have such slow file access between servers when workstations seem to be fine?

Hello Andy,
Check your speed settings on all the ethernet ports. All the settings on the switch ports as well as the NIC speed settings should be configured with the same setting. For example if the server NIC is configured with 100mbps with full duplex and the switchport is configured with auto detect. This will result in slow performance. Check all ports (clients, switchports of the client, server and switchports of the servers)

if the above suggestion doesnt fix it (it probably will), try turning off your AV as a test
