slow at applying computer settings

OS: win server 2003
CPU/Ram: 3gb?
Product: dell power edge 840

i have recently installed a windows update, i think it was an IE7 security update but not 100% sure. Now when i reboot the server stays stuck at the applying computer settings stage for hours, any ideas why or how to fix it

Try to enable the userenv logging...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221833

go through the logs. This is a detailed log of what happens after you login, as has a logging in milliseconds. See where the server is taking most of the time and try to disable that application or service.
