Hi All,

Can anyone help me out here.

I'm currently the administrator of a large domain.

I have the problem with having many network shares and many people need permissions to subfolders but not all. Its becoming very difficult to adminster as Im constantly adding group membership to so many subfolders.
Ideally I would like to create one share per department and replicate all files from different departments to this central share with relevant permission to each dept if that should make sense.

Cheers,

hallsy

Are you running Active Directory? Do you have OUs setup?

We are running Active Directory and do have OUs in place?

If i have a parent folder, I may have 100 folders beneath that and 15 people from one dept may require access to the 50th subfolder which is making my life hell.

Sounds like you need to do a reorganization of your shares. It'll take some work, but I think you'll be better off in the long run as far as permissions management.

i think you should create a top level share with multiple shares underneath

like
ACCOUNTING
->AR
->AP
_>whatever

Use my bad advices at your own peril!
