I have a server 2003 machine setup in an office. The network consists of 1 server and 2 laptops that are taken out of town on a regular basis. Both laptops are xp pro sp3
The laptops need to connect to the server on the LAN when they are home. They also need to connect to the VPN when they are out of town. The VPN is set up and can be connected to no problems there.
How do I share folder A (on the server) on the local network and also share folder A when connected via VPN. The VPN is set up on the server 2003 machine.
As of right now I can VPN to the server but no folder cumputers or devices show up.
Also the two laptops connect to the LAN via wireless access point connected to the main router. Each laptop is blind to everything on the network and the server can't see the laptops either.
The endgame is to have a central place where the files can be worked on and stored through the VPN.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You normally open shares read write in cifs. You then configure shares via ntfs permissions for the amount of access.
Might start on the vpn. Could make a self signed certificate and load on the three machines. The cert would be good for lan too. See this for a start.

Other ways might include Barracudadrive/server for https access.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
