Subject: Setting up backup exec agentOS: Server 2003CPU/Ram: Intel Xeon 4Gb of ramsModel/Manufacturer: Dell PowerEdge 2950 |
Comment: Hello, I'm plaining to have my new PowerEdge 2950 to do the backup for an older server. My older server and my new one both have the same version of backup exec. My older server has it's own backup tape drive so it backup itself every night. I recently got a poweredge 2950 and want to have the new server to backup all the data on the old one. Eventually, the 2950 will do all the backup for all my servers. How do I setup my backup exec agent so that I can use my new server to backup the old one? Will it be possible to have the agent on the old one running and the agent on the new server still be able to do the backup? Lastly, what do I need to on the server that have different version of backup exec? I have never done this before so very clueless to what I doing. Any advice on this is greatly appreciate. Reply: (edit)I'm not overly familiar with backup exec but if it's capable of backing up across the network, utilize that. If not, have the backup run on the old server and then use a batchfile to copy that backup over to the new server and then have that file included in the backup set on the new server.
