Take the existing drives out, put them in the new server. Go into Computer management and import the foreign disks!

Whoa!!!!

Not that simple!

You have to move the raid controller AND the drives IN EXACTLY THE SAME ORDER THEY ARE NOW.

You have to install the raid controller drivers. THEN you import.

Of course if you HAD BACKUPS this wouldn't be an issue.

If this was software raid or the raid controller was built into the mainboard you are pretty well hosed unless your new system has the exact same hardware.

How hard is it to get a new motherboard?

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

If the data is important I would suggest you make copies of the drives before trying to do anything else. Use a program like ghost or dd to make the copies. As long as the originals are intact you won't make the problem worse and you will have more than one chance to try and fix the problem.

If you can locate an identical mother board/RAID controller (ebay can be very good for this) that may be the easiest option but make sure you know all the settings you will need - RAID type stripe size ... The drives will need to be ordered exactly as in the original configuration and settings will need to be transfered.

If the set is not recognized or you are not comfortable with the outlined steps you will need to start looking at data recovery options.

There is RAID recovery software that can help rebuild a RAID set independent of hardware (Google is your friend) and then there is always a data recovery company.

Best of Luck,
