Have a client with a Dell server runnig windows 2003 server. They have the system backing up to a pair of 500 gig usb drive. The swap out one for the other every week. They use ntbackup doing a normal back up. Amount of Data to back up is about 170 GB give or take a little. Well it takes 15-20 hours to back up of course. Well the network runs slow most of the day I assume becasue the server is using a lot of processing power to back up. Question is anyone have any ideas how to speeed this thing up with out having to spend $1000 of dollars on a tape drive, tapes, or other hight price media?

I would schedule the backups at night or when the pc idle. Now are they doing a normal every night? They should be scheduling backups with a Normal one day and either incremental or differential the other days of the week. I would suggest, Normal on Sunday and incremetal mon - Sat. Since incremental is the quickest backup.
