I have home network of 5 computers and 1 server running server 2003. I'm trying to use the IIS on the server to run multiple sites (for design purposes). i've installed DNS and setup my primary zone "shane.com" in "forward zone" i've added Host(a) and called it "test6"
in IIS i've set up a new site and in host header value i've put test6.shane.com. everything works great on the server. when i type in http://test6.shane.com in the browser the page comes up without any problems. however when i do the same thing on the other workstations it pulls up the page some some other page from the internet and not my LAN as if it wasn't connecting to the primary DNS (which i changed to my server's ip 192.168.1.2).
what am i doing wrong? why does it work on the server but not on any other workstation on my LAN? pleae help!!

Ok, now that I've had some sleep. This is an unlikely fix, but give it a try.
Whoever is hosting your domain name (godaddy, sitelutions, whatever). Make sure you have changed the Name Servers (NS) to your local servers IP address.
It's possible that your client systems are still going out to the internet to try to resolve the domain name, and if your registrar is pointing somewhere else, this could be the problem.
Let me know if this works or if you need more help.
