Does anyone know how to configure a secondary domain controller on Win2003 Server? I can only see how to configure a primary.

its my understanding that the active directory 2k, and 2k3 for that matter no longer refer to primary and secondary, (or backup dc). they are all just domain controllers.

a few caveats to consider though. what type of forest and domain is this? if its a 2k domain and forest, you have to run adprep/forest and adprep/domain to enable 2k3 servers to act as dc's.

this is a good article to follow:

once you run dcpromo on the 2k3 server, it will ask you if this server will be dc for a new domain, or an existing domain. choose existing domain, and your all set.

other considerations though to consider: what exchange server are you running? if you are running exchange 2000, you may run into problems with exchange not getting active directory info from the 2k3 dc. thats my problem anyway, i had to go back to 2000 for the additional dc.

hope this helps you.

ok, i just resolved my own problem because i was stupid. you just need to install the active directory connector from the exchange cd on the new domain controller. then it will replicate it to the other servers in the domain.
