Solved SBS2003 Backup How To

Specs: SBS2003, 2.67 Xenon / 4gb
I have our SBS2003 backing up nightly monday-friday with an incremental backup, then backing up with a Full Normal backup on saturday. I have checkmarked the BACK UP EVERYTHING ON THIS COMPUTER for the backups.
all the information on this server takes up about 700GB of information. About 30gb on drive C and about 670 on our EXCHANGE drive. but when it does the full backup on the weekend, it's only about 300Gb.. I did a manual backup onto a 2tb portable drive but instead of backing everything i chose to back up C and Exchange seperatly.. did an asr backup, then when that was done, did another backup of the drive EXCHANGE.. all of that came out to being about 600gb.. I'm just unsure which backup is going to be the best.. I just can't figure how 700GB is turning into 300GB without not backing something up..

incremental only backs up changed files which results in less volume.

but a full normal backup should contain all 700gb of data, right... the weekend normal full backup is only 300gb.. that's where the confusion is..

✔ Best Answer
review what is contained in the backup. That is a lot of data to be missing for full backup.

You may want to run the attrib +a /s from the root of c: and d: to turn up all the a flags which is what backup uses to backup with and then run your full backup again.

You should be able to review the backup log to see if there are errors.

i applied your attrib command and the normal backup looks to be the right size now. i'm confident it's a good backup. I have the backup keeping 2 copies, is that enough.. might could do 3 but that would definitely fill up our teraserver.
