I don't see an SBS forum here, so I hope this is the right spot. I'm having a very slow issue on an XP Pro SP2 machine. I just got this SBS2003 server and am configuring it. Have one client computer so far set up with it. When I turn on the client computer it takes about 5 minutes for it to go through it's network settings, then computer settings, then finally to the logon. Once logon password is complete, it takes another 45 seconds, then finally goes to personal settings. In all it must take 7 minutes to log on. There is virtually nothing on either the server or client computer. Just the OS and Exchange on the server and the OS and Microsoft Office on the client. Roaming profiles have not been enabled. What would take so long? This is an out of the box brand new server and computer with processors of at least 3.0 Ghz with 1 GB of RAM. It's a 10/100 switch. When I look at my CPU useage while client logon is happening, on the server at least, it's at about 1% or less. Obviously can't look at the useage on my client computer while it's logging on.

Try this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q180/0/94.ASPMany times slow logon is due to DNS issues, but you can bypass that by following the instructions on that link. Also adding the ip and netbios name to the hosts file will help.
Thanks,
MAC
