Hi,
I bought this SC1420 Dell server, it came with
a CERC 6 channel raid controller card.
I would like to set up as follow, if it is possible:Port 0: (bootable) 1 drive raptor 74 gb
Port 1 & 2 (2x 160 gb sata drives) setup an array Raid 0 stripe. You think it is possible???
Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with the controller but if it's capable, then your answer is yes.
However, I would like to suggest you put all 3 HDD's into one RAID 5 array instead of the setup you plan. Your method gives you no redundancy. And worse, with a RAID 0, should one HDD fail, you lose all data contained on that array. If you go with a RAID 5, then you have redundancy.

Hi,
Understood the RAID 0 giving no redundancy,
my question was this CERC raid can be set up
as two seperate raid sets.
(SYSTEM ON ONE, DATA ON OTHER)
Thanks,vophuynh

Like I said, I'm not familiar with that controller and it's capabilities. You should have recieved a manual with it telling you what levels of RAID it's capable of. If you didn't, you should be able to get one online. I recommend you get the manual and read it.

RAID 5 will still work for you. What you want to do with the data is simply make 2 partitions on the RAID 5 set. When you create 2 partitions in the RAID 5 set, they will appear as 2 different drives in Windows Explorer, but all the data will be written on all 3 drives acting as one logical drive. The bigest drawback is that the RAID 5 set will only be as large as your smallest drive. In otherwords, your two 160 GB drives become useless, and you only get 74 MB out of them. But, if one of the drives fail, the RAID 5 set will repair itself when you fix the drive. So you will not lose data.
You should still Take Curt's word in mind. If any of your drives fail youre going to lose the data or the system.
