RPC Shutdown

Comment:
I read a post about this that was never solved. I just installed Windows Server 2003 web edition and have been getting RPC shutdowns "terminated unexpectedly". I ran the scanner/removal tool for the MBlast and I don't have it. I had to set my RPC recovery settings to "take no action". I can't leave it like this. Does anyone have any other idea of why this is happening? Anyone? Please?

I have had 2 servers do this with rpcss.dll errors. I put on the security patches - I think one has a new rpcss.dll file - restarted the server, still the same problem but maybe not so bad. I then shutdown both the network cards in the system and then restarted them - no more problems. Lucky maybe, I cannot see why it solved my problem but the server's (they are used as cheap routers, I work in a college and old PII's and Server 2003 does not cost us that much) do not have any rpc problems now.

Somebody probably has a virus or tool on your network that is capitalizing on the "vulnerability". That doesn't mean that the virus is out there. It could be some dick with a tool doing it for the hell of it. Once patched you are no longer susceptible to the "vulnerability". Get to the highest patch and service pack level available and report back.
