My root dc crashed for which I do not have a additional domain controller. But i do have a child domain up and running. Is there any way to make the child DC as my root DC?

dcpromo may do the job. I don't know if you have to demote it from the child domain and promote it to the parent domain. If you can't find an answer here, try the forum at www.minasi.com

They will know without at doubt.

Why not just fix the DC, reinstall it and then restore your backups?

You do have backups..........right!?!?!?
