Dear All, I have bought new dell server 2003. Currently I use dell server 2003 as well with Domain controller & Active directory etc.And I am taking System state Backup everyday. Question: How can I restore my old Domain Controller with the same name and all the same backup so that I would be work on new server as I worked on my old server with the same domain name or other system data.
Kindly help me to sorted out of this problem. Thanks Akshaya

Hi Akshaya,
If you already have one server and have brought a new one to replace the old, the best thing to do would be set up the new server with a different name, joining the domain and making it a domain controller in your Active Directory forest.
It will automatically synch with your current domain controller and have all the same users and groups, etc. If you want to move the data across (user areas, etc) you will need to do this manually. I have always found using Windows backup is the easiest way.
You should always have at least 2 domain controllers anyway incase one breaks so this is the best solution.
You cannot add a domain controller with the same name as before, it will cause you big problems.
