Hello,
I hope this is the right forum to post. Ok, here is the scenario, I'm running a windows 2000 PDC and two other DC under it. I would like to replicate changes as much as possible but don't know how to do it. For example when I type set on the command prompt, one of the offsite DC shows the wrong logonserver. Is there a way I can change logon servers when creating users/AD?

Thanks

Mike

Couple of key concepts about Active Directory you need to understand.

#1 - There is no PDC. There IS a PDC emulator, but the concept of a PDC as in NT4 is for all intents and purposes dead. There are no DC's "under it" as you're saying. Each DC has a read and write copy of AD.

#2 - You need to understand the concept of a site. With Active Directory, when a user logs on, a DNS query is made to find DC's for the domain. DC's in the same site as a client are tried first.

Sites are defined by CIDR notation, and they do NOT have to align with actual subnets in your network.

To influence which DC's sets of your clients tend to use, define sites such as the DC you want a set of clients to use are in the same site. This is done in Active Directory Sites and Services.
