We have a Windows 2003 standard server which is the only domain controller for our domain, I am loading Windows 2003 Enterprise Server on another computer and basically want to swapped them and format the old DC. My main concern is getting the Active Directory User over so the workstations do loose their current desktops. After loading Windows 2003 server on this new system do I connect it to the domain and basically mirror the old server over so I can shut the old server down and run all from the new?

Can some one guide me through this process, I don't need step by step instruction but if anyone can tell me the order in need to do this would help a lot.

Microsoft recommends a MINIMUM of TWO DC's. Don't replace your existing server. Keep it.

You need to get a 2003 server and AD book. In AD you join a forest not a domain. This is a very important difference to understand.

DC's don't mirror themselves. AD information is replicated but that is not the same as replicating data. That is what you would use DFS and FRS for.

Until you understand all of these things the path you want to embark on is the wrong one to pursue.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
