is there any way around microsofts security permissions. I want a group to have permissions to create files and folders in a shared folder (and rename them) but have no permissions to dete any folder or files.

Check the advanced permissions on the ACL.

More specifically, right click on the shared folder and select "sharing and security". Click the Security tab, then click "Advanced".

Select the group you want to change permissions for, and click "Edit".

Scroll down and place a check in "Deny" for "Delete" and "Delete Subfolders and Files".

Click OK, and OK on any subsequent warning messages.

Place a check in the box next to "Replace permissions..."

Click OK twice.

I've done that. this allows users to create folders but not to rename folders from New Folder.

Did you give the group "modify" permissions on the folder?
