Comment: I have a domain with a child domain - every thing is fine - but if in the future can we sever the link between root and child to have 2 distict and non connecting domains. Any ideas on how this can be achieved Thanks in advance Glenn Systems manager

Reply: (edit)1. Export your AD accounts in the child domain. 2. DCPromo all child domain's DC's down. 3. DCPromo all former child domain's DC's back up as a new domain of a new forest. 4. Import the AD accounts back in. You could also look at the AD Migration Tools and simply migrate to a newly created domain of its own forest. "Milk was a bad choice!"
