I have a piece of software I have installed locally on a few domain machines and to make it available to domain users I have added shortcut to all users on local machine. When I change permisssions on the shortcut and change "everyone" to certain groups on the domain, those I dont grant access to still see the root folder on their start menu although it is empty so they cant run the programe. Is there a way of also removing the root folder from the start menu? I have been applying permsissions on this root folder from the explore all users option on the start menu. Thanks

Hi...
I beleive you can control the start menu icons that show up on login (on a user by user or group level basis) by folder redirection under group policies.
Unfortunately, there is a limitation that terminal services needs to be incorporated in this somehow, but i've only used features of folder redirection that don't require TS so I cant elaborate.
If this may be an option for you, go to start/progs/admin tools/group policy mngmnt/
once there go to:
Group Policy object name
User Configuration
Windows Settings
Folder redirectionhope this helps!

Paul,
I think the answer you are looking for lies within the power of the force. Free your mind of hate and anger, only then can you achieve your goals. I hope this clarifies your predicament.

im having a similar problem at the moment, i want a mandatory start menu, i made a mandatory profile, then pulled it apart and put it into folder re-direction. all of them worked, apart from the start menu :S im sure ill solve it, ill post back if i do
