Hi all,

I have one of my staff moving to another office out of town so we can expand. Unfortunately I need her to be able to get into one of our drives on the server at our main office so she can update files at the end of the day. She will be using a broadband connection at the remote office, how can I utilise this to get into our network. Any help, very much appreciated!!

TIA

Jack

You'll either need to setup an FTP server, or use VPN.

Life's more painless for the brainless.

Don't use FTP - that's awful and insecure. An VPN, while nice, will be limited based on your slowest speed connection (if your office broadband upload is 768K but your remote user has a download of 10 Mbit, then her connection will effectively be 768K and VERY slow for opening files.

I would suggest one of two things:

1. Setup a Sharepoint site where ALL users can check in and check out documents
2. Setup a VPN and another computer in the office (OR, better still, buy and install a Terminal Server). This way the user can connect with remote desktop over a secure (VPN) connection and do whatever is needed FAST and effectively.

By the way, if you already have Small Business Server 2003, you can use the Remote Web Workplace as a getting started point.
