remote desktop connection via net

help. i can long on locally using remote desktop to access my server behind the router. but i cant do it from the net. i opened the port that needed to be open with the correct protocol. what else could be happening?

Let's start with - what port/protocol did you "open"? Can you describe the steps you took to open it?
Preemptive information here: You need to do more than unfirewall a port (3389, in this case) to allow access to a service running behind a soho router. For that, you would also need to forward the correct port. Have you done that?

by opening what i really meant was i forwarded the port. and i allowed both udp and tcp protocols.
im not dumb im just to lazy to google it!
