I am not sure if this is even possible, but I am curious if it is possible to remotely turn on my server from something like remote desktop. Is this possible, and if show how would I go about accomplishing this? Thanks

It either involves a special add on card or a bios option.

Many servers do already have a "wake on" feature in bios.

See magic packet.

After booted then access.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

You can boot your server from user interface of your router. But it's depend of brand and specification of your router. This function is called WakeOnLan - WOL.
For your server is optional upgrade for enhanced systems management via Remote Supervisor Adapter II. Check this
