Hi!,
I need to connect to my remote windows 2000 server machine that's about 300 miles away from me. Ok! how do i go about this? i tried connecting using putty, telnet, CRT etc. I have root access to this server box, and need to beable to see a c:\ prompt so i can install application servers like PHP, Mailenable, spam assassin etc. I just don't know what software i need to do this. Somebody please give me an extra hand.

Go to the control panel, system, remote tab, and check all remote connections. Now, if the server is on a router, forward port number 3389 to the server ip address.
Now you can use remote desktop connection to connect to your server. I would also recomment (if not on a static ip address) using a service such as www.dyndns.org or www.tzo.com to assign a name to the dynamic ip address so when it changes you will be notified. There is also a program that we use called ipmonster that will email you every time the ip address changes on the remote computer so that you can update your information.
