I am seeing that in my tray an icon showing that it is connected to the internet with a speed of 100 Mbps.
When I type in google.com it is not taking me to that page...
I am not even able to ping from the cmd prompt. Please help me out... this is a million dollar problem

A little more detail would be helpful. Your ethernet cable is obviously connected to your router/modem (hence why you can see you sycn speed) but if you cannot ping anything outside of your network then your not online. Have a look at your router configuration or the configuration of your network card. Either way you need to include way more information than that if you want a proper resoltuion.

A million dollars huh? :) Where are you typing in google.com? In your browser? If it doesn't take you to www.google.com where does it take you? Do you have network connectivity? Can you load any webpages? What does ipconfig show?
More detail would be really good.

you have private LAN connectivity; the problem could be you local loop. more descriptive details would be helpful!
