I'm having a problem with my RealTek 8169 NIC running under Windows 2003 Server Enterprise. I know the card works because when I intially installed the OS, the card installed and configured automatically (along with a 2nd, motherboard NIC).
However, when I pulled the card out to test in another machine then put the card back, the card won't work. I have manually added the card several times, using the latest drivers from RealTek and, no matter what I do (uninstall, reboot, re-install, etc.), I cannot get the OS to install the drivers. It sees an "unknown ethernet" card but updating the drivers won't take.
I'm wondering if the problem is that the realtek drivers don't explicitly state "Windows 2003" but rather Windows 2000. So when the OS looks for the drivers, it doesn't see any listings for windows 2003 and stops. The "cannot install hardware" from the hardware wizard returns almost instantly, as if it finds nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a major problem and re-installing the operating system is not a good fix. Thank you.

1) Check if you have the windows audio service enabled
- start -> run -> type in services.msc -> (double click on windows audio service and set it to start automatic)
2) Better download winXP drivers couse w2k3 is more like XP than w2k and try the following:
right click on the driver installation prog. and go to properties then change compability to windowsXP -> aplly -> install drivers (if warning messages show click continue anyway)
WARNING : Doing step N2) can harm your OS and force you to reinstall it do this at your own
risk!
