Why on folders is the attributes to some folders marked as read only (its a light gray) I will clear the mark apply settings and then when I close and then re-open the folder it is back to read only, I am admin on the box. please advise

I guess, you're talking about system folders. The color (light gray) is shown, because the hidden attribute is set. Normally, there is no change and no reason to chance that. It's under system control and will automatically change back to hidden, read only or whatever it was before.
