I want to know if my DNS look ups are going to major backbone root DNS servers?
Had a DNS problem, now fixed, and now faster then ever.
I had 20-30ms ping times when using just the numbers of IP address to ping and trace. But when I had to resolve any IP address in order to ping and trace, I would get 100-300ms ping times. This told me I had a DNS problem.
Now using win2k3 DNS server feature.
I installed the DNS server, but did not program or add any DNS forward look up servers of my own. Just used the built in DNS root servers. (it has a large list) Router and NIC both point DNS look ups to my local host (127.0.0.1)
Can't believe the speed. Before, web sites would not resolve, pages would stall, or fail to load. Now, the pages load as fast as the sending server. Even non-cached IP look ups, are the same speed as if they were cached.
It has solved the problems I've been having with the bellsouth DNS servers, 205.152.0.20, and 205.152.0.5, and all the auto assigned bellsouth DNS servers. Even tried using the "FastCache" program from analogx.com. no luck, as it still used the bellsouth DNS servers to forward look ups.
Well now that you know more about what's going on... back to my question...is the win2k3 DNS server connecting to major backbone root DNS servers for DNS look up?
I don't know where it is getting the IP addresses from.... all I can think is it's from the built in root servers that are listed.
