At our school we have been asked to configure our machines to access a proxy server using a given address. However our machines will only connect if stating the IP address. Does anyone know why?

No name resolution. In other words you may have a proxy server but DNS doesn't know about it.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

In that sense what would you have to do ? Open your DNS server up and let it know about the proxy?

Learning in progress..........
