Promote DC problem

I got the following error when I promote a 2003 server to DC, "This Active Directory installation requires domain configuration changes, but whether these changes have been made on the domain controller xxx.abc.com is undetermined. The installation process has quit."

are you joining a 2000 domain? if so you have to use adprep first.

No, I'm joining a 2003 domain. And I found that I can join win2000 server to 2003 domain but not win2003. Anyone face this problem before?

If I'm reading the last post corectly, you're trying to promote a Win3K machine, not a server, to a DC.
I don't think you can do that.
Although you could use the Win3K machine as a file server, but not as a DC.
And if you're trying to replace a current Win3k machine with a another Win3K machine to be the new DC, I thing you have to demote the old server first.
Is that what you are doing or did I miss something?
