Product key for Windows Server 2012 CAL

Specs: Windows 2003 SBS, 2G/4GB

I have a 2003 Small Business server. I needed to add a 5-device CAL for expansion. I was told by a vendor that I should buy a 2012 server 5-device CAL and it would cover the 2003 server. The new CAL arrived without the product key needed to register on a 2003 server. How do I get the product key?

You ask the vendor?

I did, and they told me that there isn't one that comes with 2012 server licenses.

Actually, if I remember correctly , you shouldn't need any key. You just tell the licensing server that you have purchased the additional CALs (and you keep the certificate somewhere safe). You are taling about normal CALs, not Terminal Services licences, I take it.

That is true for later versions, but Windows 2003 server requires that you have a key in order to register the CAL.

Return the licences, get your money back, and buy from a supplier who can help you.
