I can't seem to get my server to reply to ping from the internet. One of the resions that I can't open the port myself is the routing and romote access is installed, and this means that I am unable to configure my own firewall.

I was on a lead! I tryed going into the "cmd" and typing in "netsh" witch then gives me many commands to use, I then type "diag" then "firewall" from there I am able to "show port" This allows me to see what port are open. The end..

I am been trying to find what ports to open, but I am unable to find any. I was going to try and disable my VPN connection, so that I would be able to configure my fire wall my self. To Bad I am working though the vpn on remoted desktop.

Are you trying to ping the server from a client pc, connected to the server via VPN?

If so, you have to ping the private ip of the server.

Ping is blocked by default on a 2003. It is a very undependable test.

Another quenstion.
Do you have a static public ip?
If not, are you using services like DynDNS or no-ip to make known your domain name through the internet?

@jefro, oh yes, I forgot.
Right, ping is blocked by defautl.

But this shouldn' be a problem for connecting to the server.

@icecoolcorey
Have you checked, whether the port is accessable from the internet.
This can be done e.g. at www.auditmypc.com

Ok I figured it out. I didn't need to have my port open to reply. I just needed time for the ip address to update. I also forgot that ping is just used for testing and not anything els. ARP is used to figure out were the connection is supposed to go.

Now that I have the ip address i am able to connect to the VPN though my DNS name. All I needed was a little time for it to update.. THanks

Now the other problem I am going to post is under opening port 80 so that I cand host my pages. ( Will start another Blog.)
