Page File Size

I know the recommend page file (SWAP FILE) from Microsoft is 1.5 the amount of physical Ram installed. If the page file is more then 1.5 the size of ram installed, would there be a performance degration? I have a system running with 512meg of RAM, the page file is 4024 megs in size. Plenty of disk space, what are the consequences or perks with this configuration?

It is always recommended that you allow the OS to manage the memory.

It's better to install more memory than using virtual memory as it is much slower for CPU to access virtual memory than RAM. Put 1.5 times of the physical RAM for the initial size and 2.5 to 3 times of physical RAM for maximum size.

Or do as MS recommends for servers and set min and max the same. You will cause no harm to your system having a pagefile 8x [note not 1.5 which would be 768meg] larger except waste disk space. You add nothing to the system with a very large pagefile. To set min and max the same set both to 768meg.
