Hi,

I'm planning a Windows NT 4.0 Domain upgrade to 2003. Currently the external domain name and internal Netbios domain name are different (compINTL.com & compLTD). Upon upgrading to 2003, I will be changing the netbios domain name to match the current external name. So if I make the new 20003 domain compINTL.local, the netbios name will be compINTL (instead of compLTD). Will this netbios name change cause problems for my users the first time they logon? I will be testing this, but I wanted some feedback first.

Thanks.

It shouldn't since NetBIOS resolution should not be required for external resources.

It sounds like you're doing the right thing by using domainname.local! If that means the internal domain is that, and the external is domainname.com or whatever, you have split head DNS. That WILL save you from many troubles in the future!
