nt backup error on 2003 about media

Ntbackup will not recognize the tape media. I am using an internal Ecrix VXA-1 tape drive. The error I get is: Cannot locate the specified media or backup device. This backup operation will terminate. There is no free media available with the selected type. The device manager shows no media as well, but I know that it is physically in the drive and the tape is set to reord. Thank you,
