I finally got my vpn and telnet working over the internet to my sbs 2003 server. I had to forward ports using my Dlink DI-808HV router. But now, I cant get remote desktop connection working over the internet. I opened up udp port 3389 and forwared it to my server's private ip. Still no luck. Then i tried setting it to use both protocols (udp & tcp). That didn't work either. Then i noticed i couln't ping my public ip from the internet. The router is not set to block ping requests. And i did the resultant policy thing to see if i had any ping request policy's or anything. no such luck.
does anybody know what could possibly be happening?

If you can't ping it, you have to figure that out first. If the router is set to respond to pings, and you can't ping it, RDP isn't the problem. That's a basic connectivity issue.
