My server runs Small Business Server 2003. It uses Exchange to handle email.
Lately, when I create a new user with the "Add a user" wizard, no mailbox is created for the new user in Exchange. The new user is created ok, but without the mailbox.
After I've gone through the wizard, I get the popup saying "The User Account is being created". It quickly creates the user account. It then takes a long time trying to Configure group membership settings. In the end, it does give it a green tickmark (but doesn't create the mailbox).
The fact that no mailbox is created is a big problem, because it stops new users from receiving email via Exchange. Using Exchange enables people to use global address lists, etc.
I'm stuck here. I would be grateful for any help.

The user must login before the mailbox is actually created.
"Christmas and the New Year are actually two holidays.... I suppose you could say 'Merry Christmas' and 'Happy New Year,' but you probably have sh!t to do." --Jon Stewart, on saying "Happy Holidays"

I respectfully disagree.
1) Before this problem came up, the mailbox used to get created right away, without the user logging in.
2) I've got a user for whom no mailbox was created. He has logged in several times now, but his mailbox still hasn't been created.

"1) Before this problem came up, the mailbox used to get created right away, without the user logging in."
The mailbox won't actually be created until one of two things happen...
1. User logs in...
2. A mail message is sent to the user's mailbox. Even in that situation, the full set of ACL's for the mailbox object are not in place until the user logs in.Now, there could very well be an issue where the mailbox isn't being created even after login, etc. But you should be aware of the above.

Please use LDP to dump the account info for this user. Paste the account info here, and I'll take a look.
Also, have you verified with Exchange System Manager that the mailbox does not exist. The reason I ask is the Mailbox could exist, but the user object in AD is not being stamped properly by the Recipient Update Service (RUS).
(This is why I need the LDP dump.)

you sure you didnt send a test mail before the user logged in and maybe that is why you saw the mailbox?

Hello
I am having the same problem with a new users mail box not being created. Normally the mailbox is created straight away even before the user has logged into the system. The mailbox is also populated with 2 messages on creation. (info messages from Microsoft regarding SBS2003 features). Did you get any resolution for this. Much appreciate any help.
Martin
