This is more of a partition problem than a problem with Windows 2003. Here's the rundown.
I had recently configured my computer to dual boot between Windows 98se and Windows Server 2003. After a month or so I decided I no longer wanted Windows 98, just Server 2003. At this point I had all data backed up and removed the partition that Windows 98 was on. After rebooting I quickly ran into boot problems. I decided no big deal, I'll just start with a clean drive. So I deleted all the partitions, added a new Primary DOS partition, made it active and formated the partition to FAT32. I used FDISK to remove and add all the partitions. Then I re-install Server 2003.To install Server 2003 I booted to a floppy and used the cd\i386, winnt commands to copy the folders to my hard drive. This successfully copied the files, instructed me that the MS DOS based portion of the install was complete and to take out the floppy disk and then restart the computer. So I did, but when it rebooted I got the following error message. “No Active OS Partition. Run FDISK and make the Primary Partition Active".
This is what I don’t understand. I only have one partition set up and it "Primary DOS and is set to active. I also have Partition Commander, which I booted to in order to look at my drive. This to shows I have one FAT32 Partition. Can anybody pls explain how I can fix this?? Thanks,
Mike

I have solved my problem, but to answer your question, FDISK just displayed one active primary dos partition.
Anyway, to solve my problem, I simply ran the following command from the A> prompt after booting from a floppy; FDISK /MBR. This command tells FDISK to rewrite the MP boot sector based on the partitions present on the drive. After booting, I don't remember the exact wording the error message changed to "system disk found, no OS loaded". From there I was able to boot from a floppy and proceed to install Server 2003.
Hope this can help someone in the future.
