Hello,
I'm the IT at our small company consisting of under 15 office users and 5 shop pcs.
We are currently running 6 year old Win2k server which is on it's way out.
We want to upgrade to a new server running 2003 SBS R2 platinum.
I want to be running Exchange and the 15 users in the office will using the Exchange features.
Also we are running a program on our current server called E2 shop control.
Basically it's a program that keeps track of everything we do and users/admin controlled. It logs all the data in a .mdb file. We are going to be switching to the SQL version of the program.
Our current server is basically a file server at the moment.
So the new server needs to be able to able to run Exchange and also replace our current file server. I'm also want all the office user to log into the server as domain users.
Right now we are only running workgroups and everyone is logging in locally at their workstations.
As of now I want to get a 1 quad xeon, 4gigs of ram and 6 x 640hdds sata II in a RAID 5 setup.
I would like to keep everything on 1 server. Right now we are only running a 60gig mirrored hdd on our server and everything is working fine but it could be better.
I use a external 200gig TAPE drive and run daily and weekly back ups.
Please least what would be the ideal server setup for what I'm trying to accomplish. List server hardware as well. I have about 1500 budget for just the hardware.
Thanks,

You do not want to do a 5-6 disk raid5 array. You can't upgrade disk space for either the OS or the data easily.
Much better to have OS mirrored, three disk raid5 for data and one Hot Spare for both raid arrays.
Quad core processors alone run $900 to $1800.

Might want to scale back that requirement. HP I recommend using but I don't recommend IBM since we had issues with them.
