hi guys first time on this site.guys i just setup server 2003 on old p3 working grate all setup domain setup but my problem is that i have to have the ip of the server set to obtain automatically instead of a static ip only because it stuffs up my network now because i set it to obtain automatically i cant join any computers to the domain so guys is there a way i can change the settings on server 2003 to keep the ip at obtain automatically but still be able to join the domain anytime i want with out any problems thanks guys peter.

You might want to start with a 2003 book.
Your issue is that your router is providing dhcp address which include the dns of your isp.
Since the workstations use dns to find the server, and the isp dns doesn't know your server and never will, they can't find the server.
You need the 2003 server book so you can configure Active Directory and DNS correctly.

Peter, do you realize how difficult it is to read a seven line "sentence" with no punctuation? Posting questions in a lucid and correct manner goes a long way in showing that you're willing to make the effort to help us help you. :)

Install DHCP if not installed earlier.
If installed goto admin tools>dhcp. Just add a new scope for the ip range, add lease and domain name and then you are set to go. You would also need a DNS server..so please install it. you can either install dhcp/dns from add remove windows components or use the configure your wizard to do that.
if you are a newbie i would highly recommend you to get a book and study.
