Please help !
Last week on Thurs 26th May 95% of my 150 pcs just hung during logon, and no access to the server was avaiable.
Server suddenly started allowing logons and worked fine until.....
Yesterday, which strangely enough was Thursday a weeek on.
I'm getting pretty worried about this as there are no events that failed that I can see.

It happened at the same time on both
admin network and academic, both of which have separate servers and are on different networks split up. I could find no eventlog errors or any reason why this should spontaneously happen when i have made no changes. Also today the machines are still not logging on and I'm beginning to worry!!!!

PLEASE HELP

So it sounds like your server is losing connectivity every so often, which is strange. Have you tried logging into the server through RDP while it is happening? Maybe it's a faulty switch or hub, if it's just started happening. If you use hubs and you've just added lots of new clients, maybe you're getting collisions. Try and see if you can replicate the problem so it will happen on demand, that is usually a good first step to take.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Hi Rob thanks for your reply,
I'm a bit of a beginner with S2003, so not sure what RDP is.
Also the problem is still in effect, although last Thurs it fixed itself,
Yesterday it didn't recover and the clients do not log in.

Thanks

OK, so you must log into the server locally to administer it (using the mouse and keyboard). Normally people use Remote Desktop, or Remote Display Protocol (RDP) to log into the server. To enable it, right click my computer (on the server) and go on properties. Then go on the Remote tab, and tick "Allow users to remotely connect to this computer". Then, to log in, on your client PC run "mstsc" (Microsoft Terminal Services Client), and type the server's name. This will log you in, just like you're sitting at the server!

Anyway, with that out the way, you should try logging in with the method to see if the server is still accepting connections while the problem is in effect. If you cannot, i recommend trying a temporary switch in place of the one you are using now, and see if that helps.

Good Luck,

Rob
