Need to disable delay-write caching

I am currently running sql 2000 on a 2003 server. I keep running into problems with sql 2000 writing out data and then thinking it's done--so it completes its job and falls silent--when really it has just written to cache. I need to know how to disable delay-write caching. Can anyone help me with this?
