Please can someone give me an advise as I am new to this issue. I bought a win server 2003 installation disk. Store sold me a Windows server 2003 R2 X64 Edition installer. I got an error during installation. Error display says: """Attempting to load an X64 OS, however this CPU is not compatible with x64 mode. Please install a 32-bit X86 OS. Setup cannot continue.""" I requested the store to replace the installer for 32-bit server. They insist Windows server X64 OS installer is compatible with 32-bit machine like HP DL360 server. I tried installing several times as but displays the same error message. Please please advise if X64 installer is compatible with 32-bit servers.

If your CPU does not have 64-bit extensions, then 64-bit Windows is not compatible, simple as that.
"They insist Windows server X64 OS installer is compatible with 32-bit machine like HP DL360 server."
DL360 servers, some have CPU's that have 64-bit CPU's, others don't. What is the specific processor in the server?

Many thanks for your response. Processor specification is: Intel Xeon 2.8Ghz 32-bit X86, 533Mhz bus speed, ServerWorks Grand Champion LE chipset.

That settles it. Your CPU cannot run X64 anything.

Many thanks for your advise. I hope you don't mind if I will show your accurate response to the store who sold me the wrong software, for them not to insist Windows server x64 OS will work with our HP Dl360 server with Intel Xeon 2.8Ghz 32-bit X86 cpu. All the best.

It's just my word against theirs. Better to show docs that state which CPU's are required to use X64, and then show yours isn't the right one. I am right, but how do they know that?

Very true, your correct word against wrong.
I'll take your advise. I will again search the Internet for appropriate docs in this regard but I would be very grateful if you can suggest a link.
"I am right, but how do they know that?"
I am sure you are right because before I joined this forum, I consumed a substantial time searching relevant forum for my particular issue. From other forums, I did see your responses is really helpful - in short, you are aware of the issue before giving an advise so if you don't mind, I am proud to introduce this forum to those people.
Sorry but I am not actually going to use your advise for the benefit of myself against the seller. My humble intention introducing this forum is for them to see the correct advise and for them to know you - in this case, you also helped them as well with respect to this issue and also their future buyers like me. Please let me know your reaction.

Hey, by all means, use that info above however you like.
