I've installed Norton Antivirus server on a windows 2003 server standard edition and when I install NAV on the clients, I can't get the server to show up in the server browse listing. To I have to have the machines in the domain of the windows 2k3 server or is there some security settings I change to fix the problem?Clients are XP Pro machines.

I'm asuming you mean SAV (Symantec Antivirus) and not NAV (Norton Antivirus). SAV is the corporate version that you can use on networks and stuff. When you install the client on one of the WinXP Pro machines, it will prompt you on whether to make it managed or unmanaged. You want it to be managed. Then it will ask for the server name. Type it in, and click 'Ok'. If it can't find the server, go into the 'Browse' menu, and type in the IP of the server. It should find it then.

Yes, I meant SAV. I guess I wasn't very clear, after I choose managed and I try to find the server with the server name or IP I can't get the server to show up. Is there some sort of security setting or place in W2k3 where I can adjust the security settings?
Is there a certain port that SAV uses? (I think w2k3 has that port blocked).

There are 2 other ways to get the ws into the server's AV group as well:
1)Browse out through your network neighborhood to the server-->VPHome-->clt-inst-->Win32-->Setup.exe
2)On the server open Symantec System Center. Click on Tools-->NT Client Install and follow the directions from there.Hope this helps!

I do not know if this could help, but worth the try. Win 2003 and NAV (what version are you using? I have 7.6.1) has an incompatibility driver issue. You can go to Symantec page and download the driver and that might help a little. The URL is:
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/symevnt/symevnt.html
I just upgrade the server we use to run virus updates and that seems to solve the problem. Good luck!
