_msdcs zone deleted

in an attempt to solve my DNS issue i had deleted the _msdcs zone. Is there any way i can recover it without reinstalling AD

Try restarting the netlogon service on your DC's.

it is the only DC in the domain which is single-labeled, could that be the reason why netlogon did not update the _msdcs zone?

No...
run dcdiag /DnsAll at a command prompt. It should tell you what records are missing. You can then recreate the records easily.
