I've setup a Active Directory and a DNS Server on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition. The server isnt set up for DHCP, i have a dynamic IP address on the server and workstations. I have 5 workstations so i only need the one server as my DC. The problem occores when i try to add a workstation to my domain 'home.ics'. i type in "home" for the domain, and then Administrator and its password and i recieve the error messege 'The specified server cannot perform the requested operation'. When this happens on all 5 workstations im sure i can safely assume i have a problem with my server. i can look under the active directory on my DC and i see the workstation's account is disabled for some odd reason. I've tried to enable the account and join the domain again from the workstation. Ive aslo tried to reset the accout, just to get the same results. 'The specified server cannot perform the requested operation'. the account has diabled itsself. ive tried to create an account for the workstation before it tried to join the domaim. the account ends up disabled again. i've also tried to rename the workstation and join the domain. same results. there isnt any connectivity problem because i can browse the server's shared folders and drives easily when the workstation is on the 'home' workgroup. i will admit that i am a huge newbie when it comes to servers, any advice would be greatly appreciated. try to be as precise as possable.
Thanks

Your server can't have a dynamic ip address. You have to assign it and configure DNS properly BEFORE you run dcpromo and create a domain.

Might do a lookup on Technet about configuring DNS.

Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

u say your not using DHCP but u are using dynamic IP's? DHCP is dynamic IP assignment and static is what think u meant, anyway, what u need to do is setup TCP/IP on your DC with a static IP, make sure to set the primary DNS server to the same address as that server. then run dcpromo. then join the domain
