I am studying/learning Windows 2003 and reading the Microsoft Press Server 2003 Environment book. If you should have it, on pg 2-8 question # 2 asks: Can a snap-in have focus on both the local computer and a remote computer simultaneously? I said yes, because you can add 2 event viewers. One would be for the local computer and one could be for another computer. Am I not correct because the answer later in the chapter says no, they can only be configured for one or the other not both simutaneously. Any thought? I haven't really worked with MMC's in 2000 server.

Kind of a difficult book I thought.
My opinion is that the question asks if on that single MMC and that single snap-in can you select both local and remote.
No, if you try to select both the "focus" (poor word) will shift to either selected.
The point being when you add the snap-in is when you select the target computer. So the answer is that listed in the book.

I read the same thing and also thought it was a poor and misleading question. I have actually written a book on Windows 2000 Security and had to be careful to avoid questions like that. I'm surprised to see that question in there. I would say jefro is correct. While the MMC can certainly contain snap-ins from multiple computers, the focus changes when you select it. In other words, you can't have the Event Viewer System log from one computer and Application log from another computer in the same Event Viewer snap-in.
